In 1937 a small body of engine re-manufacturers formed the National
Association of Crankshaft and Cylinder Grinders. Their main objective
was, and still is, to establish higher standards of workmanship within
the engine re-manufacturing industry. 1968 saw the Association re-organised
into the Federation of Engine Re-Manufacturers.
Operating a strict Code of Practice and an Approved Warranty, the FER
seeks to raise the profile of the Industry and to provide its members
with a full technical, educational and business service. While constantly
seeking to increase its membership list, the FER does restrict membership
to those companies whose standards comply with a strict engine and machining
specification.
